BEHIND THE CHAIR

Any fashion pet peeves ?

When people stay stuck in one era, usually it's because they found a style they loved and stayed with it, regardless if it was 20 years ago.

Funniest client story? I once had a client that passed out in my arms... she was young and hadn't eaten all day. Her hair was extremely long so I had her stand to cut the perimeter. Her knees buckled and she fell in my arms... I just laid her down and called her mom. It was horrifying!!!

What smell reminds you of Hair School? PERMS!!!! UGH!!! I hate doing them to this day! OH! And AfroSheen... lol

Who is your industry mentor? Defiantly Ale Bonilla... THE HAIR NINJA!

Favorite quote from a client? I don't know if you would call it a quote but i get it a lot...

"I want to change it up, but i want to keep the length, don't really like color, and i don't like bangs..." Sooooo.... basically you want me to wash it?!?!?!

Best perk about your Career? My favorite thing about my career is the fact that I have the power to take someone from feeling plain and boring to feeling amazing and beautiful... Its crazy how changing your appearance can give you the confidence to accomplish things that were once unattainable.. pretty powerful.

Favorite quote? "When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you do good!"

Can't live without which Sebastian product & why? Definitely the Re-Shaper... the smell is incredible! And for those of you that use AquaNet... look no further because this stuff HOLDS!

Favorite service to do to a client? I love to do anything that is drastic... whether it be a color, cut or both... anything that makes them turn around and look in the mirror and feel like a new person. That gives me the gratification I need as a stylist.

BEHIND THE STYLIST

Any nicknames you go by? Well, my boss and coworkers have started calling me Emmalicious... I kinda like it. :)

What are you scared of? The thing I am most afraid of is one day looking back and feeling like I have not lived to my potential as a person in general... I hope my kids can say that they are proud of their mamma... thats my personal goal in life.

Ever been in love? Of course... But I don't kiss and tell. :)

What's your favorite things to do when not styling hair? I'm a huge sports fan... I love playing basketball and love watching basically all sports on TV and watching my kids play... and it works perfect because my kids enjoy sports also so they either go with me or watch whatever it is with me, IF they aren't playing something at the time... great bonding time.

What's your favorite food you thought you would never try? I love calf fries hahahaha!

Whats playing on your IPOD? Oh man... lets see... usually anything with a sick beat... I love all kinds of music, just has to make me feel good.

What did you want to be when you grew up? Well, from ages 2 to about 5 I thought I would be a great ballerina... but I quickly realized that I was definitely not built to be one... so when I was about 14 I realized HAIR was my passion... my friends were always calling me and coming over for homecoming and prom and having me do their hair and make up. My dad (who is a natural opportunist) said, "man there has GOT to be a way you could make some money at this!" I actually turned down a basketball scholarship to go to hair school... I knew it was my destiny.

What super power do you wish you had? I've thought long and hard about this and realized, I wish I could be invisible... because I really just want to know whats going on at all times... I guess you could call it nosey. lol

Where did you grow up and what was it like? I grew up in a little town called Godley Texas. It was definitely torture when I was a teenager. My dad was on the city council, mayor pro term, very active in the school, very active in the church... so needless to say I could not get away with ANYTHING!!!! Which looking back probably saved me a lot of problems because I was too terrified to do anything, because he would find out! lol

What are some of the crazy fads you and your friends went through? Well, of course I tried the big bangs and the perms... but my favorite style was in the 8th grade when everything was lime green and orange... dresses with combat boots and hip hugger pants... jnco's and tank tops... I guess you can say I've been a fashion follower from the jump. lol

Is there anything in particular that you wish you could do over? Hmmm... that's a good question. I guess you could say there were some things I would do over, but in the same breath they helped mold me into the person I am today and I have to say, I'm good with me!

What things do you find yourself doing that you said you'd never do? Well, as a mom I think there a lot of things I thought I would never do. I wont go into detail, but you moms out there know what i'm talking about.

Tell me a time in your life that was a time you'll never forget? Im going to have to go with the cliche answer... which is when my children were born. And there have been many moments since that I hope I never forget. My kids are pretty hilarious and amazing and I wish they would stay small forever!

What is something you're really proud of and why? To put it in a nutshell, I'll just say that the person I am today is something I'm very proud of. My life 4 years ago is the total opposite of where I am now. I am a strong responsible accountable woman!

What are some goals your still trying to accomplish? I try to set daily goals for myself. I have a life plan and I have found that if I only look at my long term goals I get overwhelmed... so I try to stay focused daily on the smaller picture and in the long run I will accomplish everything, and even more than I thought was possible.

JUST BECAUSE

Dr. Pepper or Coke? DIET coke

Mac or PC? Definitely PC

Sunblock or Tan? Sunblock, melanoma is not a good look!

Facial hair or clean shaven? Either Or... it really doesn't matter to me.

Heels or flats? Work - Heels ... Home - tennis shoes!

Left Twix or Right Twix? Right Twix

Six Flags or Hurricane Harbor? Six Flags - no one wants to swim in someone else's bathwater!
